Day Before Surgery
BACK
1) Notify your surgeon if there is any change in your
physical condition, such as cold or fever.
2) If no one has talked to you today from the Longmont
Surgery Center, please call (303) 682-0375 Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to
4:00 PM for specific instructions.
3) If you wear glasses or contact lenses, bring your
case for their safekeeping. We'll provide containers for any removable dentures
or bridgework.
4) Do not eat or drink after midnight, the night
before your surgery. This is essential to reduce the possibility of nausea and
vomiting following anesthesia. You may brush your teeth, remembering not to
swallow anything.
5) Please take all of your prescribed medication with
a sip of water in the morning. If you are diabetic or take blood
thinning medication, obtain specific instructions from your physician.
6) Get a good nights rest.
7) Please be sure to fill out completely, including
height and weight, previous surgeries, medications and allergies on the
Admission Assessment/Anesthesia Sheet.
Day of
Surgery BACK
1) Please bathe or shower prior to coming in for
surgery. Remove all makeup, jewelry, and hair pieces.
2) Wear loose, comfortable clothing such as sweat
suits, easy button shirts, or blouses that are large enough in case you have a
large bandage after surgery, and comfortable shoes.
3) Leave all valuables at home.
4) Bring a list of your medications, both prescription
and non-prescription. Please include the dosages.
5) Be prepared to sign forms giving your consent for
the operation. If the patient is under 18, a parent or legal guardian must
accompany the child and sign the consent forms.
6) Arrange in advance for a responsible adult to drive
you home and to remain with you the first 24 hours after surgery. You
cannot
drive yourself or be left alone.
7) Collect all necessary papers from your physician's
office. Bring all insurance papers along to the Center.
8) Arrive promptly for your scheduled appointment.
Please check the appointment card on the right-hand pocket of the folder your
were given, for the time of your surgery.
9) A nurse will give you a gown, slippers, hat, and a
personal belongings bag in which to store your clothing before surgery. We
will also check in your clothing before surgery. We will check your
temperature, blood pressure and pulse, and ask you to empty your bladder.
10) Your family may wait in the front lobby or a
beeper can be checked out for their convenience.
After Surgery - At
Home BACK
After you have returned home, be sure to follow
your
doctor's orders regarding diet, rest, and medication. Unless given other
directions, you should start your diet with clear liquids. By the next day, you
should be back to your normal diet.
It is not unusual to feel a little sleepy or a little
dizzy for several hours after your operation. Do not sign any important papers
or make any significant decisions until this feeling has worn off.
A nurse from the Longmont Surgery Center will try to
call you on the next working day after surgery to see how you are and to answer
any questions you might have.
Do not not drive a car, smoke, drink alcoholic beverages,
operate heavy machinery, or cook until the day after surgery.
We will ask you to return a questionnaire after
surgery. This will help us with your follow-up and to improve our service to
you.
