Surgery for Your Child
Kids Are Special
At the Longmont Surgery Center, we go out of our way to meet the extra special needs of children by creating a relaxed, comfortable environment. To make children feel more at home, we encourage them to wear their own pajamas and to bring along a favorite toy or blanket.
We also encourage parents to discuss the surgery with the child beforehand to help alleviate any unnecessary stress and help answer questions. Parents should be mindful of providing information at a level the child can understand. Talking openly and honestly with your child will help to reduce any fear or anxiety that they might feel.
Although parents cannot be in the operating room, they are able to stay with their child right up until surgery and may join them as soon as they awaken. We do recommend that when possible, two adults are there to bring the child home - one who can drive the car and another adult to care for the child.
